Ponencia: How communicative are “CLT teachers” today?
Much has been written and discussed about Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) for the past forty years. But are we really being communicative in our lessons? Do we all understand CLT the same way? In this presentation, we shall critically analyze how CLT has affected language instruction then and now. We’ll discuss key aspects such as the role of grammar instruction within a CLT framework, what communicative activities are, and most importantly the notion of authenticity and teachers’ language use under a communicative paradigm. By means of literature review, research analysis, and different classroom materials, this presentation aims at triggering reflective curiosity in the audience to build a better understanding of where we should go in ELT.
